What slashdot is
slashdot is a free web search engine focused on food, cooking, and restaurants. We index publicly available web pages and rank them in response to your queries. We don't host the content we link to — when you click a result, you are taken to the publisher's own site, which has its own terms.
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) form the agreement between you and slashdot for your use of the service. By using slashdot, you accept these Terms.
Your relationship with slashdot
slashdot is operated by slashdot, Inc. (“slashdot,” “we,” “us”). When you use the service, you are entering an agreement with us.
You may use slashdot if you can form a binding contract under the laws of your jurisdiction. If you are using slashdot on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
What you can expect from us
We commit to:
- Providing the service free of charge at the slashdot URLs and through any official slashdot applications.
- Ranking results by usefulness, not by paid placement. slashdot does not sell ads or sponsored listings on the result page.
- Protecting your data per the Privacy Policy. We collect only what we need to run the service, and we don't sell or trade it.
- Reasonable availability. We aim for 99.9% monthly availability and publish a public status page at status.slashdot.example.
We may, from time to time, add new features, change existing features, or retire features that are no longer useful. We will announce significant changes at least 30 days in advance.
What we expect from you
You agree not to:
- Submit automated queries at a rate that disrupts the service for other users, or otherwise abuse rate limits.
- Scrape, mirror, or systematically copy result pages or our index without prior written permission.
- Attempt to interfere with the security, integrity, or availability of slashdot, including by submitting malicious payloads, exploiting vulnerabilities, or impersonating staff.
- Use slashdot to violate the lawor any third party's rights, including intellectual property and privacy rights.
- Reverse-engineer the ranker or its outputs for the purpose of manipulating its results.
Content in slashdot
Search results link to third-party websites. We do not host, endorse, or guarantee the accuracy of content on those sites. The publishers retain all rights to the underlying pages; we display short snippets and titles for the purpose of search indexing, which we believe to be fair use.
You should not rely on search results for safety-critical decisions. Verify nutritional claims, allergen information, food-safety guidance, and medical advice with a qualified source before acting on it.
If you believe a result page violates your intellectual property rights, you can submit a DMCA notice to dmca@slashdot.example. We process notices within 10 business days.
Our intellectual property
The slashdot name, logo, design system, software, and rankings are owned by slashdot, Inc. These Terms do not grant you any right to use the slashdot trademarks for commercial purposes.
You may link to slashdot from your site. You may embed result pages in academic and journalistic contexts with attribution. You may not reproduce the slashdot logo or wordmark in a way that implies endorsement.
Disclaimers
The service is provided “as is” and “as available.” Except where prohibited by law, slashdot disclaims all warranties — express, implied, statutory, or otherwise — including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses. We do not warrant that search results are accurate, complete, current, or appropriate for your use.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, slashdot is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to your use of the service — including but not limited to loss of profits, loss of data, loss of goodwill, lost time, missed dinners, or pasta cooked past al dente.
Our total liability for any claim arising out of these Terms or your use of the service is limited to one hundred US dollars ($100).
These limitations apply even if slashdot has been advised of the possibility of such damages. They do not limit liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
Suspension and termination
You may stop using slashdot at any time. If you have an optional account, you may delete it from the Settings page.
We may suspend or terminate your access to slashdot if you materially violate these Terms, if we are legally required to, or if continued service would expose us or other users to substantial risk. Where practical, we will give you notice and an opportunity to cure the issue.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, excluding its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms will be brought in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
About these terms & changes
We may update these Terms occasionally. Material changes will be announced on the slashdot homepage at least 30 days before they take effect. Your continued use of the service after that period constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
Archived versions of these Terms are available on request to legal@slashdot.example.
